Emergency Critical Care Veterinarian With an Exotic PastLisa Peters - DVM
Special Interests: Education: Residency: Dr. Peters joined the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in 1997 as one of its four founding veterinarians and co-director of the Department of Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Peters also is a partner in the Green Bay Animal Emergency Center and Horizon Veterinary Services, Inc. Prior to joining the team, this Madison, Wis., native worked with numerous exotic animal species across the globe. Passionate about wildlife and conservation, Dr. Peters spent time in Florida on the most extensive capture release study in the wild of the bottlenose dolphins. Through this she was able to design and execute her own research study on the Antillean manatee in Guyana, South America. Following graduation from veterinary school, she moved to Puerto Rico and worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on the conservation of the Puerto Rican Parrot. Finally tired of beautiful scenery and exotic locales, Dr. Peters relocated to Appleton after spending a short time in a busy, private small-animal and exotic practice. Dr. Peters' professional interests include bleeding disorders, trauma resuscitation and exotic animal emergencies. Dr. Peters has been instrumental in bringing radioactive iodine therapy for the treatment of hyperthyroidism in cats to the Fox Valley. She is one of a handful of veterinarians in the state specially trained and licensed to perform this therapy. She also is looking forward to embarking on her emergency and critical care residency this winter. At home, Dr. Peters enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Jay Peters (a local mixed animal practitioner), their son Samuel, and daughter Ella Catherine. Their family also includes Madison their Samoyed, Sundance their quarter horse, and a saltwater aquarium. The Peters family enjoys hiking, horseback riding, downhill skiing, fishing and water sports. Clients and their pets will appreciate Dr. Peters' compassionate bedside manner, professionalism, and expertise in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery. She has been pivotal in attaining the high standards of excellence and growth at the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center.
