Compassion for Patients and Their FamiliesLouis Licari - DVM, Diplomate ACVECC
Special Interests: Education: Internship: Dr. Louis Licari is a founder of the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center and co-director of the Department of Emergency and Critical Care. He was also instrumental in the development of the Green Bay Animal Emergency Center, Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center, Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center, Central Wisconsin Animal Emergency Center, and Horizon Veterinary Services, Inc. Dr. Licari developed a passion for emergency and critical care medicine and surgery while working as an undergraduate in two busy emergency practices in New York. Following veterinary school, Dr. Licari received additional training through the Veterinary Institute of Trauma, Emergency and Critical Care (VITECC) under the supervision of some of the most prominent specialists in the field. He enjoyed rigorous practice at busy emergency veterinary clinics in the New York area for three years and served on the executive board of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association before bringing his medical and surgical expertise to the Fox Valley. Dr. Licari was honored as Veterinarian of the Year by the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician Association in 1997. He recently published an excellent review article on thrombin and hemostasis in the JVECCS professional journal. He has maintained a strong interest in continuing education via professional conferences, seminars and symposiums. Although Dr. Licari's professional focus is trauma management and emergency surgery, it is compassion for his patients and their families that he considers most important. Away from the clinic, Dr. Licari is an avid water skier and music lover, and is beginning to understand the frustrations of golf. You may also find him exploring state park trails with his wife and their two Labrador Retrievers, Katie and Vinny.
